"Hey [Name], I've been meaning to ask you something. I'm part of a business networking group that meets Wednesday mornings — it's called BNI. We're basically a team of local business owners who refer each other clients every week. We don't have anyone in [their field] yet, and I think you'd be a great fit. Would you want to come check it out as my guest? No commitment, just come see what it's about."

Key tips: Be casual and confident. Frame it as an opportunity, not a favor. Have your phone ready to schedule it right there.

  • Personalize every invite. Mention their reviews, their reputation, something specific. Generic invites get ignored.
  • Emphasize the open seat. "We don't have anyone in your field" creates urgency and exclusivity.
  • Remove friction. "Breakfast is on me" and "no obligation" lower the barrier.
  • Follow up. If they don't respond, follow up once after 3 days. Don't spam, but don't give up after one try.
  • Time it right. Tuesday is too late. Reach out Thu-Mon for the best response rate.
  • Use the buddy system. If the referral partner listed on the card knows this person, tag-team the invite.
  • Track your invites. Keep a simple log of who you invited, when, and the outcome.
